Look how dusty this typewriter is because it was not covered for many years!
  1. Remember to keep your typewriter covered when not in use. Typewriters, like everything else will gather dust when not covered,  if left like uncovered for a long period of time, dust and grime will gather in the mechanical parts of the typewriter and cause issues such as sticking keys, etc.  Try to keep it covered as much as possible by using a suitable dust cover.
  2. Avoid liquid correction fluid such as Tippex. Using liquid correction fluid to correct mistakes is not advisable, as residue of the fluid can get on the platten and the paper rollers .  It is a much better option to use correction tape.
  3. Dust your typewriter often. Take a lint-free cloth and dust the all the parts of the typewriter you can see, and do this gently.
  4. Use 2 pieces of paper when you type. By using a second sheet of paper it will not only provide a better impression on the page as you type but also helps to protect the platen and type slugs, using a single page, the type slugs will sometimes punch through the paper and mark the platten.
  5. Clean the carriage rail. This is simple enough and should be done every couple of months, move the carriage to the right as far as it can go and wipe the carriage rail with a dry cloth, then move it to the the far left and repeat the cleaning.
  6. Clean the type bars (Key Slugs).  Use a small amount of denatured alcohol  to clean the type if they look dirty. Do not get any of the denatured alcohol on any painted surfaces of your typewriter.
  7. Replacement Ribbons. Ink ribbons are available on our website and start at around €4, we have the regular Black & Red ribbons in stock, plus Black, Purple, Blue.
  8. Storage. Try to keep your typewriter in a dry room, that is not too hot.
