On the workbench today is this beautiful bright red Olympia Splendid 33 manual portable typewriter. This particular typewriter dates to 1960 or thereabouts, based on research.
It arrived with sticking keys, a bell that didn’t work and the sound deadening material inside the typewriter had deteriorated to the point it was turning to dust, clogging up the mechanical components in the typewriter. After a stripdown, a thorough clean, replacement sound deadening material , bell fixed and the sticking keys rectified, the Olympia machine works very well!
The comfortable keys are responsive and a pleasure to type with. The backspace, carriage return lever, the bell, the shift keys, carriage lock, margin setters, the carriage release lever, the paper guide and the paper release lever all work as intended. This typewriter was made in Germany, and has the QWERTY keys with Swedish Characters added.
The overall condition is excellent. All of the keys now work fine and the Olympia Splendid types as it should.
The vintage Olympia Splendid 33 typewriter will be available on our Etsy store soon
